Have you ever thought about adding some terraces in your landscaping plan? Terracing is a garden technique that has been used for centauries. It makes your yard look professionally done and they also make slopes easier for planting. If you do have a hillside, you can make it will beautiful by terracing and you can also stop erosion from happening.
So what do you need to terrace? All you need is some garden bed frames. You can purchase some that are already pre-made at the greenhouse or you can use old wood that you have laying around the house. If you get it professionally done, you can even ask them to use concrete or stones to help make the bed frames. Most of the time you use pre-treated lumber to create the frames. You will need 6X6 landscape ties, which can be purchased at a lumberyard.
When it comes to placing the bed frames together, all you have to do is place some stakes in the ground. You will need the stakes sticking out of the ground as high as you would like the bed frames. Usually, people will begin to stack three ties on top of each other to build one wall of the frame.
Now the ground will hold the top, but you need to embed the sides of the frames into the solid ground. Some people will build the entire frame and then hold it together by placing dirt on top of the backsides of the frame. You should make your frames ascending down a hillside so you may need two to four complete frames. If you build it and then cover it up you will need a lot of dirt to make the terrace stable.
Most people who want to terrace will hire a professional to build it because it can take a lot of measuring and math. Any landscaper should be able to build the flowerbeds for you. When you terrace, you not only make an unattractive hillside beautiful, but you can also make room for more flowers. Just remember that the bigger flowers should be at the top bed frame and the smallest at the lowest bed frame step. This is important because you may end up hiding some of your flowers.
